We are looking for undergraduate students to join our team contribution to the project titled, Effects of Integrated Instruction in Writing Meaningful Word Problems. Specifically, we are looking for a student interested in learning more about intervention design and effective instruction for math and writing for elementary students. The student will gain experiences in conducting math and writing assessments, scoring and analyzing student samples, and conducting related literature reviews.

The goal of this project is to design and implement an intervention aimed at helping students who are experiencing challenges in both writing and mathematics. Using a researcher-developed integrated writing mat, students will be tasked with crafting three-sentence mathematical story problems. Additionally, students will also be asked to solve the mathematical word problems they have created themselves. This study will involve the collection of three sets of data: word problem-solving accuracy, completeness in writing sentences, and sentence writing performance including spelling and writing sentence. By conducting this study, we anticipate that an intervention that integrates math and writing components will enhance students’ proficiency in both areas.
