Opportunity Description:
This is an opportunity to learn and contribute knowledge about gender, race, and the judiciary in the U.S. Specifically, the student will collect data on the demographic makeup of judges in a state in the United States. The student will be able to use the data they collect for their own project. No prior research experience or knowledge of law or politics is necessary as the faculty member will provide training. Must be detail oriented, willing to learn, and interested in the topic. Spanish-language speakers may be able to use their skills in this position.
Faculty Advisor Mentoring Philosophy:
Dr. Kang's mentoring philosophy is student and question-driven. What are the student's hopes and dreams, and what kinds of information, guidance, and resources on- and off-campus does the student need to achieve them? Together, the faculty advisor and the student can set goals and benchmarks, determine what processes work best for the faculty and student, and when the time calls for it, adapt to changes and emergent developments. Ultimately, the relationship is a partnership and should feel supportive and empowering. For this project, there is flexibility with student schedules and remote work.
