Opportunity Description:
Our laboratory is currently seeking highly motivated undergraduate students to join the Deehan Lab. Undergraduate research assistants will contribute to ongoing research projects that are focused on the development and application of dietary interventions rich in dietary fibers for the manipulation of gut microbiota in humans. Moreover, students will contribute to an ongoing research project that aims to develop a Nebraska bio-bank of human microbiomes to facilitate future microbiome research at the University of Nebraska.

Undergraduate research assistants will 1) gain hands-on research experience and develop technical skills in a supportive lab environment, 2) learn about clinical research and diet-microbe-health interactions, and 3) work alongside faculty and graduate students on cutting-edge research projects.

Faculty Advisor Mentoring Philosophy:
The best way to learn is to do. As an undergraduate research assistant in the Deehan Lab, your goal will be to learn about how clinical and pre-clinical research is conducted by being closely involved in our ongoing research projects. As a member of the lab, students should expect to work closely with graduate students in a collaborative and supportive research environment. Students will also meet regularly with Dr. Deehan to discuss the research. This opportunity will take place on Nebraska Innovation Campus, and being on campus will be strongly encouraged to gain the most from the experience.
